An article in the Columbus Dispatch stated that since 2001, food stamp recipients have doubled.  "...one in 10 Ohioans now receives food stamps..."  The reason for the increase in poverty is linked to low wages, unemployment and the increase in cost of groceries and gasoline.  (http://dispatch.com/live/content/local_news/stories/2008/03/22/foodstamps.ART_ART_03-22-08_A1_NN9NE83.html?sid=101). So what can be done about this?  When times are tough, learn something new.  There are many education opportunities available at low cost or may be financed, and easily accessible at local community colleges and on-line.  There are more learning opportunities than ever and communities can help by pointing folks in the right direction.  Folks can move in new directions, directions that may lead to better employment opportunities once the recession is passed.�
