Priorities in Place

A recent Washington Post article reports on several Latino students in a continuing education program.  The focus of the article is about the students' desire to start a student council to represent the masses.  While that is an admirable undertaking, I was more impressed with the priorities of these students. The article reports that all three of these students who are spearheading this idea are not only full-time students, but they also work full schedules as well.  These guys have it figured out.  Education is the key to a better life.  The more you know the more opportunities there are available to you.  One of the guys, who delivers pizzas at night while attending class during the day, says that "nothing is easy, but it's possible."  That is certainly the right attitude. I admire the go-get-'em spirit that these guys have and hope that my children will have their priorities in the right place.  There are so many people in our society who play the victim- victim of the system, victim of history, victim of family, and the list goes on- but to some people life is worth improving and working hard is what it is all about.
