Technology is an important part of our everyday world, but what about the everyday classroom? How are teachers using technology to teach essential materials? Which technological advances benefit our students the most?
From daily use to twice a year each teacher has his or her own comfort level in terms of technology usage. School systems are doing their part to encourage teachers to effectively incorporate technology by hiring technology experts whose job is to know new products and to teach teachers how to use them in their particular discipline. These technology experts have introduced teachers like me to SMART Board technologies, personal responders (like what is used on Jeopardy), and digital video streaming.
In my opinion, students are more engaged when they are physically active. SMART Board activities are great for this reason. Kids get up out of their seats and are excited to participate with this oversized computer touch-screen. Students also love seeing themselves on the big screen. By incorporating video cameras or digital pictures in class assignments helps kids take ownership of the classroom.
Kids love visual and auditory stimulation, so including technology that supports these things can only benefit our students.
