In this age of technology it is no surprise that schools are using every advancement to connect with students. Over the last few months The Washington Post and The New York Times have run several articles, like this
one, that highlight how technology is enhancing the classroom in unexpected ways.
Teachers are using live video streaming to connect with students and other teachers in foreign countries to practice a target language, discuss politics, or learn a new cooking technique. Cell phones are being used to communicate projects, conferences, and emergency notifications to parents and students. For years teachers have created web-sites, but they are more effective than ever as extra practice and review materials are being posted for students to access at home.
As described in the Post article above, video-streaming is now being used to connect sick kids with their classroom. They are able to not only hear and see the lesson, but also to actively participate. As teachers, parents, and students connect using technology, the quality of education will improve.
