Training and Unemployment

Today it is reported the new jobless claims are down, a sign that the U.S. economy may be recovering. For the unemployed, this doesn't mean much if there isn't a job opening soon. So what can be done? Downturns in the economy are great times to prepare for the good times. Let's face it, the economy is cyclical - good times are followed by bad times are followed by good times; you get the picture. When things are slow, preparation for the next cycle should begin. And there is no better time to do training. With the current federal stimulus package, dollars are being set aside for workforce development. This can be a great opportunity to improve your current work skills or to start a new career with new training. And when the economy picks up, those with new training may be the first in line to receive new jobs. To gain access to stimulus funds, contact your local small business development office or state employment office. And congratulations in advance on that new skill!
