The Two-Year Trend

According to a recent article in the NY Times, enrollment is up at community colleges nationwide.  In this unstable and uncomfortable economy, people are flocking to community colleges in the hopes of obtaining a more secure future.  Community colleges are appealing in a way that traditional four-year programs are not.  On the average, community college is a less expensive, less time-consuming, less demanding experience, while still offering quality education. Reportedly, community colleges are beginning to offer more and more night classes, literally in-the-middle-of-the-night classes.  The Times article highlights one such class that runs from 11:45pm to 2:30am.  Not only does this schedule open up possibilities for who can participate, but it allows the college to make effecient use of it's space. I suspect that more and more people will begin seeking out community college educations, either as jumping off points to more schooling or as a means to a more secure future.  As tuition costs at four year institutions continues to increase, the appeal to community colleges is understandable.  The is a trend that may be around for quite some time.
